Long question and answer.
Ans 1. Underwater plants- These plants roots are fixed to the soil at the bottom of the pond their stems and leaves remain fully underwater the leaves of these plants are narrow like ribbon and have no stomata in them.
Floating plants - These plants float on the surface of water because they are small in size and have light bodies.
Ans 2. Terrestrial plants are divided into three different groups.
Terrestrial plants
a. Plants on mountains and Hills
b. Plants in the plains
c. Plants in deserts
d. Plants in Marshy areas
A. Plants on Mountains and Hills- Trees on mountains and hills are generally tall, straight and cone shaped. The leaves of these plants in hilly areas are adapted into needle like structures which allows rain water and snow to slide off easily.
example- Pine tree, fir tree and cedar tree.
B. Plants in the plains- Plants in plains grow on a flat surface of the earth. They have many branches. The leaves of these plants have broad leaves to capture sunlight and helps the water to evaporate easily and keeps the plants cool. Most of the trees have thick barks and bear fruits also.
Example- mango tree, banyan tree, neem tree.
C. Plants in deserts- The leaves of many desert plants modified into spines to reduce loss of water and also to protect them from grazing animals. These plants have thick and fleshy stems that contain chlorophyll. The roots go deep inside the soil to absorb maximum water.
Example- Cactus, prickly pear, brittle bush.
D. Plants in Marshy areas- Plants in Marshy areas grow in clayey and sticky soil. They have breathing roots. As the soil is covered with water roots do not get air to breathe so they come out of the soil to breathe.
Example- Avicenna (Black mangroves), cariops.
Ans 3. Insectivorous plants are poor in nutrition. The nectar in the plants attracts insects. The insects sits on the plants and they get trapped in the digestive juices and the plant absorb nutrients from the trapped insects.
Example- pitcher plants, venus flytrap, sundew plant.
Ans 4. The uses of plants from the grass family are-
1.The remain of stems and leaves are used as fodder for animals.
2. Grass Is used as food for animals such as cow, goat, horses etc.
3.Bamboo is used to make paper, baskets, chairs, curtains, huts and mats.
4.Some kind of grass are used to make medicines.
